Jaime Oumarou’s team is on track to win another title and get a title with one of the league’s most decorated coaches. If all goes well it will leave Orlando on course to be one of the league leaders in goals scored. Not only that, though, it could be an exciting year once they get a little bigger.
In the coming years they’ll be a team that no one in the league might question: the best in the East. But for now, that will be up to Orlando and Oumarou.
“I’m pretty impressed with these five guys. I’m actually shocked that I got this chance,” he said Saturday. With all this success comes a lot of expectations. What these five players hope to prove is that they, like Oumarou, are capable of accomplishing more than they ever thought they could.
“We all have so much more to accomplish in our careers,” Oumarou continued. “I’m excited to see what the team can do with my help, and I have no hesitation in saying that they’re up for anything, because I’ve been here six years now and I know how great this place is.”
There are still some questions for Oumarou and his team. Where the two goals on Sunday were goals, the goal in Tampa was just one. No one here has gone scoreless in two straight games in the playoffs, but not because the team hasn’t played well. Oumarou and his guys are hungry. Orlando has been hungry over the past weeks.
“The feeling right now is that the team is a whole ‘nother gear. They’re feeling better about themselves,” said David Mateos, who has three assists in two games. “Every time I look at the guys I’m proud to be part of this team. It’s been a long time since I’ve even practiced with Orlando; I’ve only had one practice with the team.”
Mateos said he’s been proud to be on the same roster as these guys. He’s proud to play with these guys. He’s proud to be playing with Oumarou. The whole process hasn’t even started yet, but he knows that with the team coming together and the fans coming together and the chemistry forming it will just take the pressure off and everything will just gel right there.
“It feels fun out here.” Mateos said. “Everybody likes each other out here. I
